Eamonn Holmes quizzed by police on suspicion of driving stolen car

has revealed he was pulled over by police who thought he was driving in a stolen car. 

The broadcaster, 62, opened up on the shock moment on  Breakfast on Wednesday, telling co-host Isabel Webster, 39, that the officers were being cautious following a spate of car thefts in the area.

But instead of being annoyed at being quizzed by police on his way to work that morning, Eamonn was grateful to them, adding: ‘It’s actually very reassuring to know the police are keeping an eye on things.’

Explaining the situation on his show, Eamonn, who has to leave for work at 4am for a 6am start, said: ‘They politely explained that there had been a high number of thefts of cars near to where I lived.

‘They thought it was a little bit unusual to see a car like mine driving around so early in the morning so they wanted to make sure everything was OK and above board.

‘We were able to speak to them and explain there was nothing untoward going on. But I am actually very grateful to the officers.They were lovely young people and if they were my children I’d be incredibly proud.’

He added: ‘It’s actually very reassuring to know the police are keeping an eye on things.’

The former This Morning presenter also shared his experience on Twitter, revealing he was ‘delighted’ to be stopped by Surrey Police.

He tweeted: ‘Pulled over by the #Police on the way into work and delighted to be so.

‘A lot of car thefts in my area and they were just checking that the car I was in wasn’t one of them… 2 young officers in their 20’s and an absolute credit to @SurreyPolice.’

It comes after Eamonn reignited his fiery feud with The Morning, claiming he wasn’t ‘treated with respect’ towards the end of his time on the show. 

The presenter and his wife Ruth Langsford, 61, hosted the Friday slot for 14-years, before they were replaced by and in 2021. 

In an interview with  over the weekend, Eamonn hit out at ITV once again, after branding the broadcaster ‘sly’ and accusing it of hypocrisy over its diversity drive. 

Eamonn said: ‘I joined GB News because options dried up.The ‘wrong age’, at the ‘wrong stage’ — at some point it becomes very hard to get work. 

‘It was obvious I didn’t tick the boxes for ITV any more and I wasn’t being treated with respect there.

‘It was a self-esteem thing.You think «nah I’m out of here, bye!» So that was it. And nothing’s changed: I play what I do straight.’

In a further dig at ITV, Eamonn added GB News had been ‘very welcoming’ and it felt ‘nice to be appreciated’.

It comes after Eamonn accused ITV bosses of making it look as if he had walked away when in fact he had ‘no idea’ why he was being relieved of the slot in Daily Mail’s Weekend magazine late last month.  

‘No one explained anything to me,’ he told Weekend magazine. 

‘I’m all for TV companies being able to choose who works for 슬롯사이트 them, but it would be nice if you were told why you were going. 

‘They’re sly.They didn’t want to announce that I’d been dropped because it would adversely affect audience figures, so they made it look as if I’d walked away from them rather than the other way round. 

‘They had a chat with my agent and announced that I was going to GB News when they’d done no more than ask if I’d be interested in joining them.’
