Baked Ham is my kids’ most-loved meal of all time! They’d be willing to forgo a turkey dinner at any time during the week (or any holiday) to eat ham. The inside of this simple baked ham is soft, moist and delicious. The outside is coated with brown sugar glaze and caramelized for sweetness. This ham is served for special holidays (like Easter and Christmas) but it’s also easy to cook at any time of the season! I’m not lying I love Thanksgiving dinner (mostly I like stuffing) but I’m left out because everyone else votes to eat ham. While I make Crock Pot Ham quite frequently because it’s so simple but I’ll admit I am awed by the roasted taste that comes from creating an amazing glazed baked ham! Baking hams isn’t hard, you just need to watch the temperature to ensure it’s cooked without over cooking. Add a brown sugar glaze over baked Ham takes it to a new stage without becoming too sweet. Most of the time , when you purchase Ham, it’s been smoked which means it’s cooked. Check the packaging to make sure your ham is fully cooked. It should also include the recommended cooking temperature. When cooking ham, it is recommended to heat your oven before placing the ham with its cut side down. The ham should be covered in foil and wrap the foil around the roasting pan (I use a 9×13 pan) to secure it. After the ham has baked, apply the glaze of brown sugar. This recipe calls for bones in ham because bone-in ham produces the best flavor and tender meat (plus we prefer to have bones from ham left over to make our favourite Crock Pot Ham and Bean Soup). Bone-in fully cooked ham requires around 12-14 minutes for cooking for webtreasurehunter this recipe. A 9 lb ham is expected to take around 2 14 hours. A thermometer can be a useful instrument to ensure that you get a perfectly baked ham. It’s easy to overcook ham. I own one and simply put the ham into the oven during the cooking process and check the temperature to ensure perfect results. It is also recommended to read a cooking guide on the package of the ham purchased for cooking times but the most accurate method is to use a thermometer. This recipe uses my favorite Brown Sugar Glaze for Ham. It includes the brown sugar, pineapple juice, and some orange juice. The glaze creates a fantastic sticky coating on the outside of the ham and tastes delicious without being too sweet. I also take the time (about 4 minutes extra time) to make the glaze a little thicker as this will help it stick to the ham better. The recipe is prepared using either light or dark brown sugar. However, dark brown sugar is more flavorful. As with anything that is high in sugars the brown sugar glaze could burn if it is left for too long in the oven , so it’s only added to the oven for the final 15 minutes. Once the glaze has been cooled and thickened it is time to remove the ham from the oven. The heat will be increased to high. The glaze needs to be applied to the pork. The high heat will make the most gorgeous golden glaze in just two minutes! To keep your pork moist, you should allow it to cool for 15 minutes before carving. If you are cooking ham with bones, you’ll need around 3/4 of a pound for each person. If you have leftovers (for Ham and Corn Chowder, Cheesy Ham or Potato Casserole) it will take some more. An 8lb ham should feed about 9 people. This delicious brown sugar ham is often served at Easter dinner or Christmas dinner at our house! To make the perfect meal we serve it with one of our favorite sides! Mix dijon mustard with pineapple juice. Discard any plastic disks or charred bones in your ham. Place the ham flat side down in a roasting pan and then cover it with foil. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or according to the package instructions. Mix glaze ingredients, and bring to an unbeatable boil. Reduce the heat to a low setting and let it simmer for about 2 minutes. Brush with glaze and return to the oven until the glaze is cooked and the ham is at the safe cooking temperature.
