Watching seeds germinate is a wonderful activity for children particularly when the seeds are sprouting quickly. Alfalfa ( Medicago Sativa) is a very easy to cultivate seed that will begin to sprout within a week. To observe the seeds sprout by sprinkling a few alfalfa seeds onto a piece of damp paper towel.
You Will Need:
Alfalfa seeds in a packet (about 1.5g)
A small dish or saucer
Three paper towels
A spray mister or a small water Jug
How to grow
Set 3 sheets of paper towel on a dish.
Drain the water from the plate. The paper towel should be dampened, but the seeds should not be floating in water.
Spread the seeds out evenly on the paper towel.
Put the paper towel on a sunny window with water to stop the towel from drying. To wet seeds you can make use of a spray bottle, or شركات بيع التقاوى فى مصر mister to do so. Add water into the saucer with a cup or small jug.
Check your seeds every day to check how they’re growing.
Troubleshooting
Alfalfa seeds are simple to cultivate and should begin to begin to germinate in 2-6 days. Here are some things to watch out for should your seeds not sprout within this time.
Too dry. Seeds require water to grow. Alfalfa seeds absorb about their own weight in water before germinating, making them look as if they’ve gotten bigger. If the seeds you have are too dry, they won’t sprout. Incorporate more water into the plate until the seeds are damp but not floating in the water. Too wet: Seeds that are humid may cause their roots and their shoots to decay before they are able to grow. It’s also possible that mould may begin to develop on the seeds. Too hot or cold: The best temperature for alfalfa’s growth is 20-25 degrees Celsius. If you’re growing your seed indoors in winter, place them in a warm area. It may be necessary to be more frequent in watering your seeds should you cultivate them in very hot temperatures. They’ll dry faster.
