Children love watching seeds germinate. This is true especially when seeds germinate quickly. Alfalfa ( Medicago sativa) is a straightforward to grow seed that should grow in about a week. Sprinkle a small quantity of alfalfa seeds onto a moist paper towel to observe them germinate and grow.
You’ll require:
Alfalfa seeds in a packet (about 1.5g)
A small bowl or small plate
Three pieces of paper towel
an air mister, or a small water Jug
How to grow:

Take the water off the plate. The paper towel should be damp, but the seeds shouldn’t be floating on the water.
Sprinkle the seeds evenly on the towel.

Every day, check your seeds to see how they’re growing.
Troubleshooting
Alfalfa seeds are easy to grow and will sprout within 2 to 6 days. If the seeds fail to germinate in this time, here are a few possible reasons why things went wrong:
Too dry. Seeds require water to develop. Alfalfa seeds absorb about their own weight in water before sprouting, which makes them appear swollen. Seeds that aren’t dry enough will not sprout. In order to ensure that your seeds don’t float in water, add some more to your plate. You could also soak your seeds overnight; just ensure that you drain and rinse them with clean water prior to spreading them out on the paper towel.
Too wet: Seeds that are wet may cause their roots and their shoots to rot before they can develop. The seeds can also become moldy. It’s OK for the paper towel to be wet but the seeds should not be floating in water. Drain excess water from the tray each when you water or mist your seeds.
Too hot or cold: The best temperature for alfalfa to grow is 20-25 degrees Celsius. If you’re planting your seeds inside in winter, you should place them in a warm place. If you are growing your seeds in extremely hot temperatures you may need to water them more often as they will dry out more quickly.
