Watching seeds germinate is a wonderful activity for children and parents, particularly when seeds sprout quickly. Alfalfa ( Medicago sativa) is an easy to cultivate seed which should sprout in around a week. Sprinkle a small quantity of alfalfa seeds on a wet paper towel to watch them germinate and grow.
What you’ll need:
The packet contains Alfalfa seeds (about 1.5g).
A small bowl or small plate
Three pieces of paper towel
A small or spray mister water container
How to grow:
Get 3 pieces of paper towels and place them on top of the other on a plate.
Drain the water from the plate. The paper towel must be damp, but the seeds shouldn’t be floating in the water.
Sprinkle the seeds in a thick layer on the paper towel.
To prevent the paper towel from drying out, put it on a window filled with water. For wetting seeds, بذور ملوخية you can utilize a spray bottle or mister. Also, add water to the saucer by using the help of a small jug or cup.
Every day, check your seeds to see how they’re growing.
Troubleshooting
Alfalfa seeds are very easy to plant and should germinate within 2-6 days. If seeds don’t sprout within this time frame There are a few possible reasons why things went wrong:
Too dry. Seeds require water to develop. Seeds of alfalfa absorb approximately 50% of their weight in water before they germinate. This makes them appear to be swollen. Seeds that are not moist enough do not sprout. Incorporate more water into the plate until the seeds are wet but not floating in water. You can also soak the seeds over night; but ensure that you drain and rinse them with clean water prior to spreading them on the towel.
Too wet: Seeds that are humid may cause their roots and shoots to turn brown before they grow. Seeds can also turn moldy. While it’s acceptable for بذور ملوخية the paper towel and seeds to remain damp but they shouldn’t be submerged in water. Each time you water or mist seeds, remove the excess water.
Too hot or cold: The best temperature for alfalfa to grow is 20-25degC. If you’re growing your seeds in winter, place them in a warm location inside. It may be necessary to regularly water your seeds when they are grown in extremely warm temperatures. They’ll dry out faster.
