It hasn’t quite got the climate or the cachet, but Blackpool is being touted as the next Monte Carlo.
Business is booming again in the Lancashire resort — best known for its Tower, old-school amusements and Pleasure Beach — after families developed a taste for staycations during the pandemic.
That’s the verdict of John O’Reilly, boss of the Rank Group which owns the Grosvenor Casino and Mecca Bingo hall in Blackpool.
He declared: ‘Blackpool could be the next Monte Carlo.’

Rank has put £2million into the town since the pandemic, and Mr O’Reilly said punters were desperate to ‘get back out and enjoy themselves’ at the roulette table.

‘We serve cocktails that are every bit as good as those in Monte Carlo,’ Mr O’Reilly said.
