Look around you when you are on the road. There are millions of cars, buses, motorcycles, boats and not to mention sports vehicles. They all require or will require some maintenance or parts down the road. It is just a matter of time. In fact according to the U.S. Department of Transportation Statistical Records there were 241 million registered vehicles in 2007 in U.S. alone, and this does not include the vehicles in stores, salvage yards, auto auctions, and countless other places. Now, multiply this many vehicles by the number of parts an average vehicle has, and you get into trillions.
The center of any bedroom is the bed, and with a bedroom decorated using a car theme, it’s great to have a race car bed, if you can afford it. However, with a little imagination, any bed can become a car. You can even buy an inexpensive bed frame from a thrift store to use as your base. Paint the bed a good race car color, such as red or bright blue. Add racing stripes down the sides. You can buy car parts at a 2005 pontiac to add for a touch of realism, such as wheels, a steering wheel, and anything else you can think of adding. It won’t cost a lot, but if you let your child help you build it, this bed will become one of his prized possessions, and all his friends are going to think it’s really cool.
But if you think you’re alone in this… you’re not! You only need to take a ride through any neighborhood and you’ll find at least a few houses that have the same predicament as you. They’ve got an old clunker that’s sitting in their driveway, taking up space, and they don’t know what to do with it either.
Also the automotive service business and the backyard mechanic will be affected because those cars that were scrapped cannot be used for parts. So if you go to a salvage yard, different from a scrap yard, you won’t be able to find a good used part to fix your (clunker?) car. And if you can find used parts look to pay 20%-30% more due to shortage.
There are some advantages of replacing damaged auto parts of your car with used parts. Among various benefits, cost saving gets the top priority. If you want to purchase new parts, you may have to pay double than the used parts. This is the main reason why auto owners want to purchase old parts. Sometimes, it may save half of the price of new parts.
Train the kids to put things back where things belong. If there is a home for everything there is always a place to put things back after they use stuff.
Don’t be greedy. Now, I understand that this is all about getting the top dollar for your car, but, there is a walk-away price for any business. Most salvagers are only willing to pay a little more then half of what they can make off the car. So, if your asking price is more then 65% of what they can make, then they will more then likely walk away from it.
