Children enjoy watching seeds germinate. This is true especially when seeds germinate quickly. Alfalfa is an easy to grow seed that will be sprouting within one week. Sprinkle a little amount of alfalfa seeds over a damp paper towel and watch the seeds germinate and grow.
You’ll Need:
A small packet of Alfalfa seeds (about 1.5g).
A small bowl or small plate
Three paper towels
A small spray mister or water container
How to grow
Put 3 sheets of paper towel on a dish.
Remove the water from the plate. The paper towel should be wet but the seeds shouldn’t be floating in the water.
Sprinkle the seeds in a thick layer on the towel.
To prevent the paper towel drying out, place it on a sunny windowill with water. To moisten seeds, use a spray bottle or mister to do so. Also, add water to the saucer by using the help of a small jug or cup.
Check your seeds every day to check how they’re growing.
Troubleshooting
Alfalfa seeds are simple to plant and should begin to germinate in 2-6 days. If the seeds don’t germinate within this time frame there are a few factors that could have gone wrong:
Too dry. Seeds require water to develop. Alfalfa seeds suck up about weight in water prior to getting germinated, making them appear larger. Seeds that are too dry are not able to develop. You can add more water to the plate to ensure that the seeds are wet but not floating. You can also try soaking your seeds overnight, but make sure you drain them and بذور ملوخية wash them in fresh water prior to spreading them out on the towel.
Too wet:If the seeds are moist, their new roots and shoots could rot before they are able to develop. Seeds can also turn mouldy. It’s okay for the paper towel to be wet but the seeds should not be floating in water. Each time you mist or water seeds, remove any excess water.
Too cold or hot: Alfalfa grows best in temperatures between 20 and 25°C. If you’re cultivating your seeds indoors in winter, place them in a warm location. If you’re cultivating your seeds in very warm temperatures you may need to water the seeds more frequently since they’ll dry out faster.
